Meden Parker

During his senior year at Dennis-Yarmouth High school, Meden began to discover how he could express his creativity through working at a potters wheel. There were days that he would stay at the wheel and lose track of time, and other classes. Later he learned that the design of the Ceramics Shop was under the supervision of Harry Holl. Josie Canning, son of Kim Holl showed Meden around his Grandfather's shop, Scargo Pottery. Meden was introduced to the attraction to a potter's life, namely through Harry.

After a time in college the call of being a potter grew strong. Meden began mixing clay in 1996 as a part time worker at Scargo Pottery. The early months were used to learn about clay, glazes, and continuing to improver the craft of being a potter. Meden began making mugs and Scargo's famous fish bird feeders. Later, he designed the hanging flower vases seen in the shop inventory during the summer months. Also, he has made large pots, Japanese garden lanterns, and many styles of vases.

A culmination of work growing out of the skills he ha learned over the past six years led to the making of an illuminated three foot light house. Designed after the Porer Light House in Croatia. Still, Meden considers himself an apprentice with much to discover and learn from the master potters of Scargo Pottery.

For Meden, the six years at Scargo Pottery has meant more than simply crafting clay at the wheel. He has learned many of the skills needed by a potter. These range from formulating new glazes to firing the kilns. The potters of Scargo have been his teachers and have become a part of his family.
